The origins of the NERV community trace back to late 2018, when Discord began to serve as a communication platform for a small group of friends migrating from TeamSpeak3. Initially used for gaming and casual conversation, Discord soon became the primary space for this circle. In 2020, dissatisfaction with the culture and atmosphere of a server known as 666 led to the creation of a new community.

On November 1st, 2020, the first iteration of what would later become NERV was established under the name The Chill Fortress. It was intended as a drama-free, tightly-knit alternative—a space with a more focused, friend-group dynamic. This early period laid the groundwork for the values and structure that would define NERV's future evolution.

On November 1st, 2020, The Chill Fortress (TCF) was officially established. It began as a small, friend-oriented community composed of former members of the 666 server and a group of longtime acquaintances, originally connected through gaming. Early activity revolved around maintaining engagement through casual games like Skribbl.io and Gartic Phone, which became regular events to keep the group active and connected.

As time passed, TCF grew in membership and began to eclipse the server it had branched from. Internal strife and frequent drama contributed to the decline of 666, while TCF's tighter moderation and clearer community values allowed it to thrive by comparison.

This period also marked the beginning of a cultural shift within the server, catalyzed by personal experiences that led to broader thematic inspiration. A growing interest in more structured identity and meaning led to the discovery of Neon Genesis Evangelion, a series whose themes would leave a lasting impression and gradually influence the community's developing aesthetic and philosophical framework.

In early 2021, the original Chill Fortress was voluntarily shut down and immediately re-established as The Chill Fortress: Reboot (TCF:R). This marked a symbolic fresh start, accompanied by a new aesthetic direction inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion, which began to influence the community's visual and thematic identity.

During this period, outreach to other online communities, especially those centered around the Serious Sam game series, brought new members and broadened the network. As more connections were formed, TCF:R steadily grew, eventually reaching close to 200 members.

The server's trajectory began to shift as the founder became exposed to increasingly radical ideological discussions and a sense of personal disillusionment. This led to a sharp political transformation, and the new ideological tone gradually permeated TCF:R, altering its atmosphere and content.

As more individuals aligned with the evolving values joined, many of the server's original members began to drift away, uncomfortable with the changes. Despite this, the community pressed forward under its new identity. The increasing political vocality resulted in multiple Terms of Service violations, culminating in Discord issuing account bans and the eventual deletion of TCF:R.

After the recreation of The Chill Fortress: Reboot, it was decided that the server's theme, inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion, suited the name NERV, as the server structure began to resemble an organization. This marked the beginning of NERV's growth as a community. It was during this phase that the first major operation took place on June 15, 2022. NERV infiltrated the Politically Neutral Server (PNS), where the server's moderation was overtaken, resulting in the banning of all members and the deletion of all channels. Some of the members of PNS who had aligned with NERV were subsequently integrated into the community.

Following this, NERV formed an alliance with NeatHouse, a community with a communist ideology. Despite the differing political views between the two groups, the alliance proved successful for several months. Together, they conducted multiple operations to take control of other servers and provided psychological support to members affected by degenerate content, encouraging their departure from the platform.

However, these aggressive operations attracted negative attention, leading to reports that resulted in NERV being banned from Discord. As a consequence, the server was deleted and had to be recreated in August 2022.

Following the recreation of the server, old members migrated to the new NERV server, which marked the beginning of a new chapter for the community. However, the alliance between NERV and NeatHouse came to an end due to internal issues. Leaked messages from moderation chats and NeatHouse's shift towards content deemed undesirable led to the dissolution of the partnership. As a result, NERV took steps to establish stricter policies, banning degeneracy, communism, and any leftist or liberal ideologies within the community.

During this time, NERV established five Branches — other servers where protection from raids was offered. These branches operated as partnerships, but over time, most were abandoned as the community entered 2023. Some members from NeatHouse remained within NERV, though many left during this transition.

In 2023, NERV underwent a significant transformation, becoming more aligned with Christian values. Two major reforms were enacted in the server's Freedom of Speech policy: first, a ban on derogatory racial terms, which contributed to a cleaner and more respectful environment; second, a prohibition on Muslim propaganda, resulting in the departure of Muslim members, which aligned with the new direction for the community.

During this period, the server also began to engage with more Christian communities, seeking to expand its network, build stronger alliances, and integrate more like-minded members who aligned with the new direction of NERV.

In late 2023, the community experienced a shift in dynamics with the introduction of a new member, whose involvement began to influence the server’s activities. This member was previously in a relationship, which ended in February 2024. Following the breakup, the individual became more active in the server, leading to a period of reduced overall server activity as attention shifted elsewhere.

Despite this drop in activity, the server began to undergo significant changes. NERV moved toward a more conservative Christian identity, embracing fundamentalist views with a focus on Eastern Orthodox Christianity. This cultural shift marked a turning point in the community’s direction and values.

One notable development during this time was the Prophet Fall saga, which emerged as a satirical commentary on certain liberal Protestant denominations. This mock series of scriptures criticized what was seen as deviation from traditional Christian teachings, particularly focusing on the acceptance of liberal and corporatist views within the religious community.

The period also marked a time of personal transformation for key members, with an increasing focus on religious and ideological matters, which in turn affected the overall atmosphere of the server.

In August 2024, following his baptism on the 16th, the Supreme Commander of NERV entered a period of significant reflection and renewed focus on the mission of the community. During this time, the leadership began addressing internal challenges that had subtly affected the cohesion and morale of the group. The period was marked by intensified efforts to uphold discipline, as certain tensions within the server started to test the community’s resilience.

By September, the leadership noticed increasing signs of disunity among some members, with certain individuals withdrawing or acting in ways that ran counter to the shared values of NERV. These developments required thoughtful intervention to preserve harmony and prevent potential disruption.

In October, it became apparent that shifting allegiances and external influences were impacting the internal atmosphere, prompting the leadership to reinforce the community’s guiding principles and reassert its focus on integrity and loyalty. Efforts were redoubled to encourage transparency and commitment among all members.

In December, NERV successfully overcame these internal trials. Attempts by a small faction to undermine the community through false claims and accusations were swiftly addressed and resolved through clear evidence and firm action. With these matters settled, the Supreme Commander and the community were able to move forward, restoring stability and focus to NERV’s mission. Despite the challenges of this period, the community emerged stronger, demonstrating its resilience and steadfast commitment to its core values, including Eastern Orthodox Christian beliefs and the ongoing development of its members.

In early 2025, NERV entered a new phase of growth and revitalization. The server saw a significant rise in activity, forming new partnerships and strategically recruiting members from other “Christian” communities, with the goal of guiding those led astray back toward a more Orthodox path. Eastern Orthodoxy became the dominant faith within NERV, shaping its spiritual and ideological character.

A major highlight was the launch of Operation STRIKE in February, a successful offensive against The Christian Cottage, Many of the members defected to NERV, further boosting its ranks. Around the same time, NERV drew members from the Citadel of Patriarchy, strengthening its alliances and influence. The First Branch was formally reestablished, marking a new era of structured coordination, recruitment, and expansion.

However, the year was not without turbulence. Sneedclave, a hostile server, created a fake Disboard listing in NERV’s name to siphon traffic. In retaliation, the NERV Defense Force (NDF) infiltrated and exposed the group, uncovering disturbing IRC logs that suggested ties to a pedophile ring. The takedown dismantled Sneedclave’s operations.

NERV’s infrastructure also improved: the Evangelion Unit-01 bot reached full completion, providing advanced functionality for moderation, community management, and server defense. Building on this success, development began on Adam A.R.K. (Autonomous Reconnaissance Knowledge System)—a next-generation platform designed to enhance NERV’s security through neural network-driven analysis, capable of recognizing concerning behavioral patterns and potential external threats before they could disrupt the community. Most notably, the server’s first formal Main Codex (constitution) was drafted and ratified, codifying NERV’s internal law, doctrine, and organizational structure. This document enshrined Christian theocratic principles with an Orthodox monarchical spirit, becoming the foundation for governance, discipline, and citizenship within the community.
